Mowing the Fields: Keeping Open Spaces Cleared

Picture
About ten years ago
Henry Kolm, Henry Grandgent
and myself (John) landed a small tractor (with a big heart)
on the shores of Baker.
With the Park's blessing
we set out on a course of
management that called
for mowing the fields and trimming ladder limbs.  This preserves historic vistas by maintaining open areas, and reduces danger of fire.

2025: The third tractor has just been landed on Baker Island, thanks to L/C Kukui and Mike McEnroe.
It is a Kubota B3200. We purchased a new flail mower which, with the brush hog we have, will do a stellar job mowing the open areas!
